Rice Bowl Series (2024 - Ongoing)

"Rice Bowl" is an evocative hand-printed woodcut capturing Singapore's socio-economic narrative. Its large size commands attention, inviting viewers to explore its details and themes.

Created through hand carving and rubbing with a wooden spoon, the process mirrors the labor-intensive efforts needed to build a thriving society. The piece features three figures around a central bowl of rice grains, symbolizing sustenance, survival, and collective labor driving the city-state's growth. The backdrop showcases iconic elements of Singapore's skyline, including Marina Bay Sands, juxtaposed against the intense expressions of the figures, highlighting the tension between rapid urban development and individual struggles.

The central figure, with a stern demeanor, represents determination and resilience shaping our future. Flanked by two others absorbed in their thoughts, they embody diverse segments of the population—all contributing to the nation's prosperity.

The stark black-and-white palette enhances dramatic intensity, emphasizing resilience and fortitude. Intricate lines and textures convey raw emotions and relentless progress characterizing a Singaporean’s journey.
